In my 8th grade classroom, to get kids on task, I ask, “What are you supposed to be doing right now?” Works like a charm. How would I ask that question in Latin American Spanish?

“Tu a que vienes ?”

Now, how sassy is that? Ironic, yes, but there’s plenty of irony in properly worded English statements and questions in the setting of a middle school classroom in the United States.

I kinda went blank the moment I posted the first comment... Trying to remember my middle school days it was mostly irony that teachers worked with.

Working with 8th graders greatly aids me in working with grown-ups. In my experience, it doesn’t work the other way around...
